Dassera is the worship of Shakti - the primordial, female, energy of the Universe.


The Dasara festival, also called navaratri or dasahara of dusserah is perhaps the most widely celebrated festival of India. And comprises nine nights of worship and celebration, called Navaratri. The tenth and concluding day is called Vijayadasami, signifying the slaying of the demon Mahishasura by Mahishasuramardini, the Goddess Chamundeswari or Durga, the principal deity of the maharajas. Legend has it that Mysore city derived its modern name from Mahishasura.

This festival also know as Mohani Nakha (Nepal Bhasa) & Nadahabba (state-festival) of the state of Karnataka, India Mysore- which of all the cities in India is perhaps the epicentre of this particular festival.
